The Pilatus PC-6 Porters and Turbo Porters

Life of the Porter started back in may of 1959.

The first Porter, registered HB-FAN was later flown for the 1960 Swiss Daulaghiri expedition, nicknamed 'Yeti' and painted in a bright color scheme, it recorded the highest landing for a fixed-wing aircraft. By may 5th 1960 it was written off after a forced landing in the high Himalayas and had to be left there at 5.200 meters altitude.

And yet the latest version of the Turbo Porter, PC-6 B2-H4, is still in production today; though in very low numbers...

Pilatus PC-6 Porter

The early Porter types with piston engines. A sturdy and reliable utility aircraft with good STOL capability.

PC-6 - The original model with 340 hp Lycoming engine. Total  of 64 delivered by the factory, the first one in may 1959. PC-6 H1 & H2 are subtypes with raised MTOW.

PC-6-275 - Only one built, feb. 1960. Simpler/milder version with a smaller 275 hp engine and as such a lesser STOL performance.

PC-6/350 - Same as the original PC-6 but now with a 350 hp engine.

As from dec. 1961, 8 aircraft built. PC-6/350 H1 & H2 are again subtypes with raised MTOW.

Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter

The best known version(s) of the PC-6, the Turbo Porter is famous for the outstanding STOL performance and versatility. My collection includes:

PC-6 A - The first turboprop version of the Porter. 42 of them built and powered by different versions of the Turbomeca Astazou, starting from may 1961.On my PC-6 A-H2 model it is an Astazou IIG.

PC-6 B - The 'B' most common model with some 382 pieces newly built starting from may 1964 or converted from older versions. Powerplant can be a variety of Pratt & Whithey Canada PT6A engines.

PC-6 B2H4 - The latest, and still current, production version of the Turbo Porter. Earlier versions were powered by a PT6A-27 turboprop of 680 shp; the later models have a PT6A-34 of 750 shp.

PC-6 C - This version was powered by Garrett TPE-331 turboprops. Most of the ±71 aircraft delivered starting from oct. 1965 were produced in the USA by Fairchild.

Other Porters

This are some of designs and derivatives of the PC-6 that didn’t make it into production.

PC-6D - Back to piston engines. One only, built and tested as per apr. 1970. Meant to be powered by a large 8 cylinder Lycoming engine of 500 hp (this engine didn't reach operational status and the alternative only reached the 450 hp mark).

PC-8D Twin Porter - Twin-engined design of the Porter. One only, built and tested as from nov 1967. Further development was abandoned as performance of the prototype was below expectation.

PC-9B Extended Porter - Design (drawing board) only for a Turbo Porter with 'stretched' fuselage.

The 'PC-9' type no. was later used for the 'Advanced Trainer' development of the PC-7 Turbo Trainer military tandem-seat trainer.

“The Porters Files” or “The Porter ABC”

Well, OK, maybe a few more letters and numbers...

This is just my collection Pilatus Porters; from the first piston Porter to the later Turbo Porters and the less known derivatives (prototypes & drawing board).

Started back in v566 already. It was back then that out of shear curiosity I wanted to compare the performance and handling of all the different types and subtypes of the Porter.

What you get: the plain PlaneMaker-only model, a 2D panel.

What you don’t get: a brilliant full-3D model, all the flippin’ switches or magic plugins.

Other than that; it smokes, it drinks, it does the hoochie coochie...

Have fun!

Pilatus PC-6 Turbo Porter  s3D version for v970+

This s3D (simple 3D) versions are a further update -and my second rework- of the original models by BeatB and Peter Cole (x-plane v860).

The model is still mainly based on the older and simpler 3D objects and setup, combining 3D objects with plain PlaneMaker parts and an older arrangement of the 3D cockpit.

-the earlier (2015) update for v970 can still be found at the x-plane.org

-v2.0 simply refers to my second rework and includes additional changes and some new objects. First in these new series is the B1H2 model,

A big thank you goes out to the original authors:

BeatB for his initial work and the different PC-6 versions.

Peter Cole for his Mount Cook liveries and minor adjustments.

Beber (Bertrand Augras) -as usual- for his collection of pilot objects.

PC-6 B1-H2 Turbo Porter

This is one of the earlier B-types, produced around 1966 -67 and powered by the 550 shp P&W PT6A-20 turboprop.

-Base model is supplied with a white livery and different acf files for standard wheels or skis and standard fuel or external tanks

-Additional acf files: the CAR9 version (raised MTOW)

-Extra liveries (single or sets)
